The fundraising campaign for a new Greene County animal shelter is kicking off with T-shirts for sale and a donation drive. It is coincidence that it comes at the same time as discussion about how the city of Jefferson deals with feral cats.
T-shirts have been designed by Greene County High School art students. They’re available at ShineOn Designs on the north side of the downtown square. Proceeds will go to the animal shelter.
Don Orris is spearheading the effort to raise $1.1 million for the shelter. The land, located east of the site for the new high school and regional academy, was donated by Greene County Development Corporation.
The city of Jefferson has agreed to pay ongoing expenses of the shelter once it is completed. The county supervisors also agreed to increase what they pay for expenses, as the shelter takes in animals from all over the county.
Funds raised for the shelter will be kept by the city in a separate revenue account. Donations will be tax deductible. A donation/pledge form is available by clicking here.
